Consuela Rendon
This is a ceramic nativity scene made by Consuela Rendon from Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán, Mexico. There is a long tradition of pottery-making (alfareria) in Tzintzuntzan, where clay is abundant. This style of black and white pottery is characteristic of much of the pottery made in Tzintzuntzan. These nativity figures were painted in manganese black over a background of kaolin white clay. The late Rendon was well known for her charming designed painted plates, angels and sirenas.
