Descended from the anciet El Molle and Las Ánimas societies, the Diaguita culture of the Elqui Valley of central northern Chile produced beautiful pottery. This vessel is a 20th century reproduction of that pre-Colombian Diaguita pottery, characterized by complex abstract designs with intricate geometric patterns. Although an original vessel like this would have been used as a pitcher in pre-Colombian times, today such a vessel is meant for decorative use only
