Hand made and painted with natural pigments, this is a small ceramic frog figure from award winning Cochiti Pueblo artist Martha Arquero. The frog has its' tongue sticking out and a small bug is on the tongue. Using local clay, it was built from coils, that were shaped and smoothed and then painted with all natural pigments and fired outside to finish.
Martha (1944- ) was born in the Cochiti NM and was taught by her mother, Damacia Cordero. She has been active since 1977. Her sisters, Josephine Arquero and Marie Laweka also work in clay.
