Description

The famous Tigres masks of Olinala, Guerrero, can always be recognized by their distinctive style, of which this is a typical example. The artists of Olinala produce these painted masks, many of them lacquered, for use in a number of villages in the area. There are several Olinala Tigre designs, all with piglike countenances. Defining characteristics of the mask include: painted leather eyes, boar bristles for whiskers, a leather tongue, tusks on the side of the mouth and a lacquered finish.
