Description

This is a Mexican Moro Pasion mask that is part of the traditional dance of the Moors and Christians. This is a contemporary version of the mask that still has the traditional markings of the beard, red cheeks and red nose. The dance of the Moors and Christians relates to the Spanish defeat of the Moors. The Spanish celebrated the defeat of the Moors by creating a dance drama—Los Moros y Cristianos, which they taught to the Indians of the Americas to emphasize the power of the Christian God.
