This is a carved wood Okina mask from Japan. The Okina mask is the oldest of the Noh Theater masks. It shows an older man's face with a wrinkled face and goatee. Traditionally, the Okina mask has a separated chin that makes it different from the other Noh masks. In Japanese folklore, the Okina mask is particularly sacred and has been at times treated as the embodiment of god, bringing longevity and prosperity to families.
