Maximino Santiago and Yolanda Lopez
Maximo Santiago and Yolanda Lopez are married wood carvers from La Union Tejalapam, Oaxaca, Mexico. They work together as a team and with their children on carving wooden figures and scenes that depict life in rural Mexico. Shown here are three hand carved and acrylic painted wood women, two with infants wrapped to their chest, and all holding yellow baskets on top of their heads. One of the baskets is filled with wooden and hand painted yellow and red flowers. Another basket is corn still in the husk, while the corn in the woman's hand has been husked. The third woman has pineapple cut up into slices.
