This is a huipil from the town of Joyabaj in Guatemala. Joyabaj is a Quiche speaking town in the Department of Quiche, 50 kilometers east of the departmental capital of Santa Cruz Quiche. This huipil, embroidered with floral decoration, exhibits definite Mexican influence. It was hand woven on a backstrap loom in two predominantly black, warp-striped cotton blend base panels. The neck and arm holes are surrounded by hand embroidered circles of decoration typical of Joyabaj huipils.
