This is a rebozo or shawl from the town of Santa Maria Nebaj in Guatemala. Nabaj is a highland town in the region known as Quiche. The indigenous population of the area are known as Ixil where they have their own distinct language. Woven by hand on a backstrap loom, this rebozo is made of embroidered cotton with various birds and animal figures on a striped cotton panel, a style that is characteristic of Nebaj textiles.
