These two boxes were made in Mexico. They are made of wood that is inlaid with straw (popotillo) to create beautiful landscape designs on the top and geometric designs on the sides. The straw is intricately placed on the box using beeswax. Straw selected for these boxes has to be of equal thickness and firmness. The straw is dyed with natural extract powders from flowers, leaves, dead insects or seeds. The beeswax is processed through heating and straining it until silky smooth and all impurities are removed.
