Ventura Fabian
Ventura Fabian (1938-2019) was one of Oaxaca’s most renown makers of the hand-carved, brightly painted wooden figures, now known as “alebrijes,” for which Oaxaca has become well-known. These armadillos are representative of Fabian's style - he used acrylic paint to make small marks and patterns on the body of the armadillos, creating a kaleidoscope of colors and lines.
