Description

This is a hand carved stool made by the Lobi People of West Africa. Lobi stools are typically carved from a single piece of hardwood, such as iroko or shea wood. The wood's natural grains and textures add depth and character to the finished piece. The carvers use traditional tools like adzes, chisels, and knives, carefully sculpting the wood to bring out the desired form. While the primary function of the Lobi stool is utilitarian – serving as a seat or a small table – they are also considered sacred objects and are often associated with ancestor veneration. They are passed down through generations and are used during important rituals and ceremonies.
