Description

This is a glazed ceramic incense burner made in the Mayolica Ceramic technique of Guatemala. This incense burner is distinguished by its upper decoration in high relief with representations of trees, birds and animal features with a bowl on a raised base. The yellow color glaze is obtained from antimony, the green color from copper oxide, and the black from iron oxide. Mayolica ceramics have been produced since the 16th century in Guatemala, specially in Antigua, San Miguel Totonicapán and in Guatemala City.
